Tribute to the new king

Here lately I am seeing a solid stream of Oklahoma politicians, political wanna-be’s and other social miscreants making a bee line to Washington to pay homage or tribute to our newly elected President.   As my Daddy used to say, “they are not fooling anyone, they are all lining up at the trough.”

image005I will make no bones about it, “I don’t like flying anywhere.”  Finding it somewhat difficult to board a machine that has some 8 million parts, all supplied by the lowest bidder, and maintained in Mexico, I opt out on flying anywhere these days.

This in turn makes me ill suited for “traveling great distances to kiss the ring of our new King.  I will have to settle for being a loyal serf here in the kingdom of the confused and lost.”

It is too cold, and I am too old, so I find myself here, feet firmly planted in the Red Dirt of the Fly-Over-State watching the parade.  As I no longer fly, and I am not taking my shoes off for anyone just to board an airliner especially to rush up there for my fair share of the Federal Take.

Which brings us to this form of communication, a rant.

imgres6As most of you already know, I am mostly cynical and somewhat jaded when it comes to these things, I am wary of this new guy.  Believe it or not, I can get used to disliking the president elect, even before he is sworn in.  This isn’t my first rodeo, and I am sure, it is not yours either.

Every day I am put in the often awkward position of approving some comment that he is the “next Demi-God, sent here to save us all.” Or some other kind of diverse thinking.  “she is the chosen one sent her by God to lead us out of all this. “

It surely gets old and tired after awhile.

So even though I am giving him the full benefit of the doubt and a very weak fair shake, I already do dislike him to some extent.  This coupled with the fact that I am a disenchanted voter and biased as hell, doesn’t set well for the new guy.  To be candid about all this.  I have hated or disliked all those presidents for all the standard reasons.

Some were good reasons, like the murderous foreign adventures that most of them have gotten us into overseas and around the world.  Call it an indiscretion of youth (or old age) but I didn’t see their strengths and humanity then, and I do not see it now.

So it is now out with the old and in with the new, which is fine with me.  Like it or not, that is our system.

As for Mr. Trump?  I don’t know if he is a Mega-God or a divine representative sent to rescue us from our own self made Sodom and Gomorrah, but I am sure given time, some will learn to dislike him just as much as the rest of these guys before him.

Only thing I know for sure is … I just know these days we can be such harsh judges of one and another, before the proverbial first shoe drops and hits the floor.  It is as if it is a cheap form of entertainment, which sadly has become the New American way of life.

  1. Good observation Okie !!

We try, it is often hard, but in the end it is worth the effort.

  2. While I agree with almost all of what you’ve stated DS, just for myself, after observing what’s happened/taken place these last eight years I have a glimmer of hope that there JUST MIGHT be a positive change coming.
As a retired 70+ year old man, I just received my Social Security letter advising me of my wonderful “increase” of funds that I receive once a month. To go along with a couple of your sentences, I remember vaguely that The Donald mumbled briefly as to what he said he was going to do for people like me. Said the same thing if I remember right about all the veterans. Those two things are the only two subjects that I’m concerned with. Like you, I’ve heard it, read it all before.
However, like I’ve stated, I’m willing to give the man a chance, and am willing to see what he can/will accomplish in his first 100 days; just like all the rest of ’em going back to JFK. The record (s) and history from those times don’t bode well at all, but I can hope.
