Just Here For The Comments …

COMMENTSIt would be easy to fill up a courtroom with people who know of my sarcasm and cynical views, it would not take much to render a conviction and sentence in my case.  Very few would testify to my Goodness, kindness, generosity and love.  I am still working on that.

Was rummaging around today and came across this old picture of me, just ten years out of the service.  I believe at this juncture in life, I had discovered the joys of Mescaline, Prozac, Pamela Anderson video’s.  It was at this point in time, I came to the stark realization that “my generation was more than likely not going to change anything in our society.”

Which we all know now, they did not.

We shuffle thru life and we fail to realize that we have profoundly impacted other people by our thinking, actions, comments on issues an opinions.  Not long ago, I got a call from a guy I had not seen in over 30 years.  He told me that he had been looking for me for over two years because he wanted to tell me something.

So I said, “Yeah?  What might that be.”

Then he went on to explain to me how much I helped him in the service, how I helped him to work out the trials and problems of being away from home for the first time in his life.  How I impacted him on a scale that was to him, generous, attentive, kind and fair.

Me?  I didn’t have a clue.
Kind of shows all of you how time hasn’t changed me much.

But it got me to thinking about other people in my life, and what they do for me, and how much I not only need them, but respect their guidance, advice and sometimes criticism.

It would be easy to fill up a courtroom with people who know of my sarcasm and cynical views, it would not take much to render a conviction and sentence in my case.  Very few would testify to my goodness, kindness, generosity and love.  I am still working on that.  It would also be literally impossible, for me to name all the great people who inspire me on a daily basis.  So I will just use three for an example.

Jim Fish is my neighbor, he is 83 years old, works like a champion, don’t know where he finds it all.  He has taught me much, he is one of those people in life you stumble across, and they impact you in such a positive way.  He would be a good example.  I will never come close to paying him back for all he has done for me.

Larry Jones, in Albq NM is another example of a good guy, I sure would like to resemble something similar in my personality.  To walk along the lines of the path he follows in life.  He has shown me how to be cool, calm, reserved in a crisis situation.  All of which at times, I am lacking.

And most recently … Perley Benson a discovered gem I found in the desert at a bus meet, he most likely doesn’t know it, but he has helped me with some hard choices.  Calm, cool and collected, I truly wished we lived closer to each other, I have often wished to just sit down, around a campfire and explore his views on life.  Pick his brain for just a little while.

So that is today, how it is that I have grown to appreciate all three of these men.  A working example of friends, and how valuable they are to each of us, in their own special way.

Here is my message to all of you that have hung in here and made it this far.  If you are not doing anything today, dial up someone special in your life, and let them know about it.  They will be much richer because of it, and it will fill or heal any hole in your soul you might be nursing, as you stumble down the path.

  1. You have helped me, my friend of over 50 years. Thank you for being there for me.

Don’t have a lot of friends, but the ones I do have, are strong, rooted and valuable, much more than silver and gold. That is what is important to me. Thank you Terry.

  2. Well Galldangit ! You’ve got a friend out here on the “left coast” You ain’t no Andy Rooney from CBS in the good ol’ days, but I’m glad that you’re here !
