  1. I think every veteran who has served on any war front needs to be completely taken care of by our gov’t. This includes a home, complete insurance, and many other items. If anyone risks their own life to protect and serve our country, our country needs to acknowledge that in the form of complete and total care until the day they die.

  2. Never have so many, done so much, and were appreciated by so few … they deserve everything they can get.

  3. I agree!! It is shameful to hear about veterans returning home with lost limbs and all sorts of problems with nothing to help them cope better in place. They DESERVE to be taken care of for the rest of their lives, unlike members of Congress who shaft the very same heroes on a daily basis.

  4. Alot of years ago, I noticed a purple heart on a license plate that was on a ’55 Chevy, being parked by an older gent, in Carmel, CA. I went up to him and asked if I could shake his hand, and being puzzled by that “request” he asked me what for? I simply told him that I wanted to thank him for all that he did as a veteran in the war. Then, I’d realized I did not ask him WHAT war ! He said in a very low voice that he was in WWII and that he had survived the fighting on Iwo Jima in the Pacific.
From that day on, whenever I see that symbol, or a bronze/silver star on a license plate, I try and do the same thing, ’cause to my way of thinking with those men and women who are dieing at 1200+ a month all over the world, if it were not FOR them, we’d be a much different US of A today !
Now with troops STILL being scattered in 100+ countries all over the globe, like others who’ve commented, I find it unacceptable that the government fight everything tooth and nail to make sure these vets are stonewalled at EVERY turn when they reach the shores of the US of A after their tour of duty !!! Just like the Vets coming back from Viet Nam, there’s no jobs for ’em, the recognition for them is minimal albeit in their home towns, and their pittance for pay that they get is laughable as an enlisted man/woman. Slightly better if they are an officer.
I’ve wondered for years as to why politicians NEVER add a “plank” to all those promises “that I’m gonna” would include better conditions for our military troops; current on active duty, as well as coming into “civilian” life in today’s world. Some of those same politicians were once in the military, but as we all know now, they’ve set up their nest eggs that protect THEM for life and the hell with the rest of us !!!

    • Things are heating up in the halls of Washington, it will be soon, bet your last dollar on that. And when they come to get your child or your grandson, remember this day.
