My mother-in-law went in to “freeze” her property taxes too, but discovered that her income was just over the parameters set for this particular tax break. The poor thing has little money herself, but she recently remarried and evidently the dual income was enough to put her over the limit. Unless it varies from county to county, you might check to be sure.

This year I reach the age requirement and plan to do just that. It sucks. Back east, people are actually selling their homes because they can no longer pay the taxes on them.

Oh yeah, almost forgot. “Cookies, Copulation and Flying Deer… and how was YOUR day?” and I thought my titles were a bit quirky? Squirrel porn and cookies in the morning, what a mix.

One more …. I would not have picked it up either?

I understand your concern for the player at Indian casinos, but if the odds are so skewed against the player, they are free not to gamble there. Much like people who complain about high credit card interest rates, they can avoid them altogether by simply stopping their usage. Both are free choices made by adults. While I would like to see a bigger payout percentage at the casinos I can not fault the tribes for making all the money they can. After all, at one time ALL the land and resources of this country belonged to them and were stolen by white invaders. So, a little payback is in order as I see it. And unlike the white invaders did to the Indians, the Indians only take from those who willingly set themselves up for it.

At the entrance to all Indian casino’s you will find a sign denoting them as sovereign nations. Which is fine with me, my main complaint is #1: Paying taxes on the winnings on “Indian land” and of course, not being allowed by the IRS to deduct losses without a “federal gambling stamp” as I understand it, which is just about totally unobtainable by most standards.

And #2: Skimming off the proceeds and putting them in the general fund (state slush fund) instead of going where they were intended (education).

But they do it with highway taxes and the bridge funds too. It is just part of the corrupt political process known as Oklahoma Government.

Believe it or not, I subscribe to the very same idea. My neighbor will complain to me about payouts, losing, where the money is going. When I hear enough, I smile and tell him …. “You don’t have to play. No one is forcing you to go in there and give it away.” But he always goes back for more.

“Root N Scoot”?? Sounds like something my dogs do. In all seriousness, though… I moved to NM where there is gambling, from a state where I had to drive 4 hours to get to the river boat – which was only a year or two old. I LOVE Blackjack. But I had to learn real fast to stay out of the casinos. It’s been nearly 2 yrs since I have been in one. And the last time, I only gambled $40, lost it, and left. Much of the money does go towards college education here. But other than that, I have no clue. I hear tales that when the tribal lands wanted to first set up casino’s, the state’s politicians and citizens protested. But the response was, “Your highways go through our lands. We’ll just close those down.” Well, casinos are springing up like mushrooms now. I do not know the legitimacy, but I find it humorous.

We go every now and then, not all that often, have been mildly successful and we have also suffered losses, it is “a hard way to make a living” and I do not recommend it. It is truly ill advisable to think that you can win your way to prosperity, this isn’t going to happen. I have enough old PowerBall lottery tickets to wallpaper my garage and I have not won a dime.

But I still play …….

When the Indians asked to improve access to their Shawnee Casino, Fire Lake, they were told by the state “we do not have the money to do that ($22 million) and you will just have to wait and see.” The Indians told them, “No we don’t want your money, we just want permission, and they built it themselves.” Don Laughlin did the very same thing with a bridge across the Colorado River in Laughlin Nevada when dealing with Arizona.

Money talks and the rest of it walks … rule of life. They are legit in Oklahoma and they are springing up everywhere.

Watching this year of yet ANOTHER east coast represented teams, I looked forward to seeing this year’s crop of $3.5 MILLION dollar commercials !
I must admit I just did not “get” the M&M commercial, and with exception of the Clydesdales finally showing up, the Bud commericals were kinda bland.
The wife just had returned from viewing another wasted two hours of an over-hyped flower show in Lodi, CA and she got to see the Dog and Doritos, and the vampires being sent into oblivion via the car’s headlights ! Those turned out to be our two favorites

Really hate to admit it, but these two that I found on the Internet are the only one’s I saw. I didn’t even know the game was being played until it was over and someone at the beanery mentioned it. I guess you might say I am not much of a sports fan. There have been times in my life where I would describe myself as a disinclined recluse and this is one of them.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not in favor of taxes but of all the taxes we pay, the local taxes are the ones we can influence the most. The people we elect to spend our money are neighbors, and we can actually talk to them as opposed to the money we send to Washington where we peons can’t speak to anyone.

Our property tax uses vary with the state and counties we live in, but they typically build our local roads, fund schools, pay for police and fire protection, and pay for the relatively modest local graft and waste.

They could be used for so much more good, than the current use they are put to now, I don’t like ‘em and I do my level best to avoid anything that will increase them. Next year I will be old enough to freeze my personal property levels and that will help some, not much, but I will take anything I can get.

Viewing your Avatar or Gravatar (?) it is hard for me to imagine you not looking good in anything. For some reason Stacie, that post (out of all of ‘em) stands out and gets high numbers in traffic.

Really aint that much there.

Most women are conscious of their appearance in a bikini, I will grant you that. Same for Speedo’s and men, which I assume is an acquired taste. I am into big boxers, something akin to a wagon sheet or that large thing they pull over the infield when it rains at Baseball games.

But you do what you feel is correct with the little girls, that is your duty. I copped a sub to your blog, some good stuff there for sure.

Oh, you can bet we’re the laughingstock of the world. Obama has clearly proven he’s failed our country and its people. No one is going to touch the last comment about praying for the death of our country’s president… but I have heard people say they can’t believe he hasn’t been assassinated yet. I’m not up on what it takes to impeach the guy… but surely it can be done.

I always believed it would be best to “vote them out” not eradicate them. As for praying for the demise of another human being, well, I don’t know what religion that might be that condones that, but it appears to me to be a little bit sick. He hasn’t done anything that would be considered an impeachable offense that I know of, Bush and Cheney did, and look what they got.

Comfortable pensions and a seat on the lecture circuit and big bucks.
