What would you imagine the “Perfect Job” to be?
For some reason that thought has been with me for a day or so. I have been running that one around and around in my head for a couple of days now. At one time, I actually believed that driving a truck would be the perfect job, not just driving it mind you, but being the owner operator of the truck. that to me, was going to be the perfect occupation.
That is before I knew of such matters as local small town sheriffs, speed traps, the D.O.T. and Federal Regulations. Then one night, in a small town in New Mexico, a Friday Night, I looked down from the cab of my truck, and I saw two couples in a car, out on the town for the night.
The blonde in the backseat, dressed up to the nines, was making out with the guy next to her, the woman up front had her hand in his lap, from my advantageous viewpoint I silently wished I was one of those guys, didn’t matter to me if it was front seat or back seat, I just wanted to be in that car.
As I listened to the windshield wipers scraping the windshield and waited on the light to change, I thought to myself, “what in the world are you doing here?” … I thought to myself, “there has to be a better way to make a living. That night, instead of turning off and heading up north on fifty-four, I drove right on by the junction, headed east into Oklahoma City, parked it in the yard, locked the door and walked away. That was the end of my career as a Truck Driver and my idea of the Perfect Job.
So, what would be the perfect job?
Anyone … Anyone?
