Everywhere I turn, someone is wanting to drill this or drill that. No one seems to be listening, haven’t they heard the news, “We Cannot Drill Our Way Out Of This Mess.” McSame who reversed his opposition to drilling in June, said in Pennsylvania recently. “We have to drill here and drill now.” In order to meet rising energy needs, he also is calling for 45 new nuclear power plants by 2030 and investments in “cleaner coal.”
Where he got that one I dunno? Cleaner coal is one of our major problems, must have pulled that one right out of his ……. Well, never mind.
Obammer also reversed course and changed boats in midstream on drilling. He is now saying he would support some drilling as part of a larger compromise featuring $150 billion in alternative energy investments. He has also proposed a $1,000 energy rebate to families that would be funded by a windfall-profits tax on oil companies, that one is a real hoot there, regular side slapper that one is. Obammer voted just awhile back to “give the oil companies” tax breaks, now he wants to call them back.
The Book Of Obammer … He giveth and he taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Great Obammer.
He also reversed his position on tapping into the strategic oil reserve in Louisiana. Which is at best a reckless gamble, his reversal on drilling reeks of pandering, especially since all his recent rhetoric more or less points out that he doesn’t believe in it.
What we seem to have here is a bunch of people trying to cover the respective political hides, and not much more. Tell ‘em what they want to hear, not what they need. What a difference a few polls and a couple of days make.
Meanwhile, we keep giving these potentates, sheiks, mullahs and dictators who control the world’s oil reserves another $600 billion this year. They must be sitting back and just snickering like Dick Cheney at a Texas All You Can Eat Chicken Dinner Republican Fund Raiser.
Then there is Shorty, our resident West Texas Brush Popper who said … ‘I don’t see America having problems.’ This guy is so far out of the game, he doesn’t even know what inning it is.
This evening, NBC interrupted its Olympics coverage of women’s gymnastics for an interview with President Bush. Last week, Bush gave a speech and expressed “deep concerns” with china’s detention of political dissidents, human-rights advocates and religious activists.” Costas brought up this speech and asked about “America’s own problems.”
Bush of course, denied that America has any problems.
COSTAS: This past week, you restated America’s fundamental differences with China. But given China’s growing strength, and America’s own problems, realistically, how much leverage does the U.S. have here?
BUSH: First of all, I don’t see America having problems. I see America as a nation that is a world leader that has got great values.
Artificial intelligence is once again, no match for natural stupidity.
Both Al Gore and T. Boone Pickens have offered far more ambitious plans for breaking the country’s dangerous dependency on oil from hostile nations. But it appears, that once again, there is no one at home in Washington DC to receive the message.
