Another Day At The Office

Another Day At The Office

You can make a difference in someone’s life.  Each and every day, when you come into your office, that special place in your home, that little nook and cranny, that is all yours.

When you sit down in your chair, boot up the computer and listen to it whirr, collect your thoughts and then start writing.

You are giving birth to a special thought, an idea, something that could possibly change another person’s life, halfway around the world.  As you compose your thoughts and then transfer them to that empty page, you are forming and shaping someone’s spirit and touching their heart here and abroad.

Last week in the span of 6 days, this blog had 737 first time visitors.  That figures out to about 123 a day, which I suppose, is a pretty decent count for a blog.

Most of the time I hear nothing, comments are far and few between here lately.  But I did get one email over the weekend and I thought I might share it with you.  It read:

Hey Don,

Just got to read your posts for today.  We had bad news in our family today.  Shortly after two of my daughters and their kids and my girlfriend and some of her grandkids had finished one of our weekend family breakfasts, a highway patrolman pulled up in front of our house to tell my youngest daughter that her husband had been in a single car accident and had been killed.  He leaves behind her and a 13 year old son and 6 year old daughter.  What a shock.  How appropriate you wrote missing lil brother today.  It has and will continue to make it a little easier.

I feel so sorry for her, but especially her young kids.  They are good kids and it is hard to see their suffering.  Anyway, I’m on vacation for a couple of weeks, so maybe i can make things a little easier.  Like you say, not a lot you can say or do.  But, we will all get through.

Take care, Man.

Often, more than I like to admit to, there is nothing here for me in the morning, but dead air and a lot of empty page.  On some days, I face “The Death Valley of Pages” believe me.  But every now and then, I hit a resonating chord with someone, I reach out and touch a heart, make a difference in someone’s life, and that is what makes it all worthwhile for me.

As Dr. Phil is fond of saying, “What are you getting out of all this?”

I get my payday when what it is that I do helps someone, that is what is in this for me.  So I will sit down and write someone today, write something that will lift up a heart, will reach out across the miles, and touch someone’s spirit.  And it may or may not find the way to that person, but I am gonna try.  Don’t sell yourself short, don’t sit there and buy into the lie that it is all just frivolous and a total waste of time, because it isn’t.

What you are doing, believe it or not.  Is very important, it is not just bloggin.

  1. I couldn’t agree more. Blogging is the new support system in the World. It enables people who are lonely, or ill, or want advice or support to reach out to others all around the world. Blogging also enables people to air their views, give their opinions, share their news: both good and bad – and in a way blogs are the history books of the future.
Imagine how exciting it would be if you read the blog of Shakespeare, or Plato, or anyone in history. I’m betting you’d be rushing to read it. Well that’s how the future generations will view our blogs – I’m sure.

    So keep on, keeping on!

I plan to! It is often not easy (as I feel you already know) but it is worthwhile. Occassionally I see where people are not as generous in their comments but that is the nature of the beast. There are a lot of folks downtrodden and discouraged on the webpages and sort of espousing this theory that “it isn’t worth it or life sucks kind of ideology.

So I thought I would try a somewhat different approach to it. I appreciate the comments.
