Life is Unfair

Grabbed my cup of coffee and headed outside to check on my nest of robins.  I have been watching them closely, a family of four, recently developing feathers and a little bit of attitude.  Each morning I venture out to check and make sure my adopted family unit is okay, that no one has been shoved out of the nest by an unruly sibling.

Today I go out, and they are all gone.  Something has come in and taken them (they had not reached the point where they were leaving the nest) and I suspect it was a Blue Jay the Al Quida feathered terrorists of the neighborhood.

I am sad.

Some men dream of crossing oceans

Some men dream one day to fly

Spend their whole lives out there floating

On the water and the skies.

Some men dream of building fortunes

Some men dream of having fame

Nothing else is more important

Than making money and a name.

But in my days, I see

A RV parked beside a small stream

Blue Birds chirping off the front porch,

A whole new world outside my screen door

The sound of grandkids on vacation

Barefoot feet running

Across the kitchen floor

In my dreams,

Even the impossible dreams come true.

My little buddies grow up and fly away

Everything works out MY way

Hello Dr. Phil

My name is ……

Nuts!

Slow Lane

Life in The Big Town, a little rain on the driveway last night, and that is always good, especially when there isn’t a whole lot of moisture around.

Walked into the kitchen and got … “You smell like sweat.” Not exactly what I expected, wonder why it is that when I am all cleaned up, shaved close, and wearing my best Foo-Foo water, I never hear … “You smell wonderful.”

Every guy wants to smell “wonderful” without it being a Broke Back Mountain moment.

I desperately need to find a way around the National News, it is draggin me down like you would not believe. The entire world it seems is on the brink of extinction and things are not all that good in this country as a whole.

Fortunately, there remains a small window of amusement left for me to stare into.  Every now and then, something, a little something will appear in my life, and it rejuvenates my spirit.  Like today for instance, I am over at the Root N Scoot, bellied up to the pump with the rest of humanity, getting my fix of what ails me.  I walk inside to pay for it and this lady asks the other cashier, “Give me a dollars worth on #5.” Now that brought a smile to my face, as I stood there sucking on my big slurppy watching her drive off and wondering if she would even make it out the cotton-pickin’ driveway.

I have that, or going bowling, and that is about it.

Haven’t received my Economic Stimulus Check as of yet, we are thinking about maybe buying a boat. Grand-daughter wants to call it “Ecstasy” and the wife is thinking about “Fantasy” and me. Me? I am a realist, $1,200 isn’t going to buy that much of a boat, I am thinking, “Hysterectomy.”

And just like you …I am running out of gas.

Starting to see a lot of “paper tags” (new cars) floating around town, a fairly good indicator that people have rushed to the “herd mentality” and rushed out and purchased a new automobile.  A futile attempt at beating high gasoline prices I assume.  With discretionary income shrinking in this country, people are now turning to alternative measures, in order to once again “find a life.”  I guess it goes on and on, in some kind of insane cycle.

Wednesday was a slow day, so I did a little car shoppin’ myself.  Hit the lot, picked out a little honey that caught my eye, we went to Taco Bueno and had lunch …. No wait, that is another story.

Browsing the lot and I spot a model that looks interesting and affordable.  So I walk round the thing a couple of time, kick the tires, open the hood and “pretended that I KNOW what it is that I am looking at?” and slam the hood down. Bam!  “Yep, all there!”  So I ask this guy, who is now slavering badly and has that familiar hungry car salesman/finance specialist look in his eye, “What does it get on fuel?” and he says, “Oh, that is important to you?”

Uh duh.  What color is the sky in your world bozo, point me to the cave you are living in.

Rushng out to purchase a new car that is “marginally efficient” in my opinion is just plain non-sense.  I looked at one just the other day and the price tag was close to $30,000 and it only got 25 mpg (promised but seldom delivered) and that is a good sized chunk of change.  Then you put insurance and a new tag on a car, that is around $100-$150 a month, add on the carpayment for the next eight years of so.

How do you come out ahead on that?

I just loved it when the House Select Committee asked again and again why Big Oil was making obscene profits. While consumers were signing over welfare checks for frivolous things like, groceries, heating oil, motor fuel to go to work.

And the Big Oil Boys answered with: “Those profits help the oil companies survive the bad years.”

Well “Kiss My Xxxon Valdez, I didn’t know that! By the way, with all these obscene profits, they have somehow neglected to pay their fines owed to the fisherman and residents of Alaska some twenty years later.  Another full page ad in USA Today trying to convince everyone that they are “our buddies” and that they are only making 8 cents on every dollar … Don’t get me started.

Must be tough.  Diesel is up 200 percent since March of 2002 … Big Oil has seen it’s profits soar some 250 percent in roughly the same time frame. I ask you, all of you, to work together with me for a better life for oil … l mean “all.”

Maybe we ought to just sue the bastards and get it over with.
