It has only taken two years for Philadelphia’s Commission on Human Relations to reach the conclusion that asking immigrants to speak English is not racially motivated, or an act of discrimination. Only two years, amazing.

You know what they say, “Let’s all form a committee and pool our ignorance.” This entire thing is simple, common sense, but evidently they do not see it that way in the City of Brotherly Love.

Geno’s Steaks, a popular cheese-steak eatery in that city put up a sign that read, “This is America: When Ordering, Please Speak English.” as he said it was slowing everything down, trying to fill orders in all these different languages. Thus started the two year battle over the cheese-steak sign. Jeeze, get a life for cryin’ out loud.

The Gover-nator of Kali-for-nia is on record saying that assimilation of the language is the road to success in this country. He should know, he isn’t from Alabama as we all know (Austria). Asking people to speak English is not bigotry. It is just good common sense. Mexican groups have reported that Hispanic’s on average make 50% more in wages, when they speak English.

Here is just another prime example of coddling to the masses. Mexican, Hispanic, Latino’s, immigrants, illegals, undocumented workers ….. How are we supposed to refer to these people. We need to get it right. Why is it that everything in this country has to be so _____ difficult any more?

Personally, I believe it is high time to stop stereotyping everyone. Not all Italians are in the mob, some of them are in the Witness Protection Program. If you are Arab American these days it is really difficult to get a good job in crop-dusting. Does it really matter if someone calls you a Latino or Hispanic? I don’t know.

Then there is that tag on the Census form “Mexican-American.” Which I guess is better than Hispanic, I don’t want to be freely associated with anything that has the word “panic” in it. Remember the good old days, you were: Caucasian, Indian, Black or my personal favorite … other.

That was it.

Insisting on speaking Spanish while living in an English-speaking country, on the other hand, dooms the speaker, and his family, to a life of servitude and poverty. Not to mention evidently making it a lot harder in Philly, to order a cheese-steak sandwich.

Let’s give the Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations a really tough question:

“If a man and a woman, from Arkansas get a divorce, and they move to Cali-for-nia, can they still be legally considered brother and sister?”

Two years, unbelievable.

Adios!
